PLR Article Update

March 27, 2007 – 11:53 pm

Just a quick update on the PLR experiment I was running.

I release two “starter packs” earlier this month. The starter packs were sets of 10 general articles in a somewhat broad niche, which are designed to be used by someone wanting startup content for a brand new niche content site. The two starter packs were based on the following general niches: Starting an Online Business and Internet Marketing Basics.

I just launched my first smaller, “specialty” niche pack today. Those sets are on a more specific niche topic, include 5 articles, and are standalone PLR sets, or can be used as cumulative add-on content for sites launched using the starter packs.

You can view the lists of articles included in each set on the PLR articles page of FirstRateContent.com.

I originally was planning on using a 500 word minimum on all sets, but writing 10 500-word articles in a day was complete torture, so I dropped that to 5 per day when developing sets. I also was noticing some of the articles were feeling a bit dragged out, so I dropped the minimum length of each PLR piece to 300 words. That made the latest set released today much easier to write thankfully. It’s not that the pieces take terribly long to write in general, but more that I get extremely bored rather quickly when writing general articles like the ones in the starter packs.

I haven’t sold many sets yet. I also haven’t done a whole lot of marketing, other than announcing the releases over at DigitalPoint. In all honesty, I jumped into the experiment without doing the kind of market planning I normally would, so now I’m playing “catch-up” with trying to figure out a plan, especially since I’m not creating “typical” PLR content (often re-hashed Web research sold in bulk), and I’m not really marketing to the typical PLR content-buying crowd. So far buyers have had good comments, and nearly all buyers have been repeat buyers already. I believe every buyer has opted into the mailing list on the site for announcements of new PLR packs, so we’ll see how that grows over time. Anyway, that’s the update as of now… :)
