Freelance Writing Jobs or Markets?

When you’re looking for freelance writing opportunities, do you generally prefer to research writers markets (such as magazines, ezines, newsletters, etc. that accept freelance submissions on an ongoing basis), or do you prefer to look for more immediate freelance writing jobs (such as things on freelance marketplaces, CraigsList.com, job search sites, etc.).  Why?

    I do a little of both. I like to have some ongoing work that I can depend on from one month to the next. Even ongoing work isn’t constant, so I continue to look for those one-time jobs to fill my downtime.
