Paid Blogging vs. Paid Posting

I recently took a shot at applying for a paid blogging spot with b5 Media, because A) Since leaving Suite, I’ve been spending more time blogging, and realizing how much I enjoy it, and B) I figure it would be a good networking opportunity, so why not try? When I mentioned that I applied at AllFreelancing.com (my freelance writing forum), I had a response also asking about paid posting (like pay-per-post and reviewme). Personally, I’m a bit against paid reviews, but paid blogging doesn’t put that same bad taste in my mouth. What about you? Do you differentiate between the two, or do you think they’re more similar than that?

I think the biggest difference in my own mind is that paid blogging doesn’t exactly involve you being told “what” to write about, or more importantly run the risk of telling you specifically what to say. Paid posting is just a form of advertorial, at least as far as I’m concerned, whereas paid blogging is more of a basic writer-client relationship, where the blogger is paid for the writing, and not the words. Your thoughts?

    But you will be forced to write good things about them. Thats what I dont like about paid posting.

    While that can be a problem in some cases (and why I’m against paid posting – even if a postive review isn’t “required,” bloggers can feel pressured into them, or they risk not getting other posts accepted), fortunately at least there are some that ask for honest reviews.

    think if it is necessary to compile a list of paid blogging sites and paid to post sites. some folks will definitely find this kind of information very useful.
