Update on Your Friendly Neighborhood Scammer

By on June 27th, 2007

If you missed it, one of my blogs was recently scraped entirely (as of June 5th) by some low life scammer too damn cheap and/or lazy to put effort into building a legitimate website. I have a couple of minor updates…

1. eNom did respond. Apparently I looked at the DNS info instead of the IP address, and assumed they were the host as well as the registrar. They looked into it and said they weren’t. So that was a waste of time. Well, not really. I did manage to track down the appropriate host then (located in the US it seems, which is good for me), and I sent off a new DMCA complaint to have the site content removed. I haven’t heard back yet, but I’d expect to by the end of this week.

2. I had also reported the copyright infringement to Google and Yahoo to have it removed from their indexes (I’ll get around to MSN too… just haven’t made time yet). Yahoo was the first to respond today, saying that they’ll “take the appropriate action.” I asked to have all of my content de-indexed. I have no idea what they consider the “appropriate action.” But I’m hopeful and at least glad that someone’s actually doing something about this moron finally.

So with any luck, Google and their host will cooperate, and I won’t have to waste time going after the domain or anything else just to be a bitch, because I can…. although frankly, people like this make it all that much more enjoyable.
