Does Every Book Deserve to Be Published?
July 4, 2007 – 7:38 pmPersonally, I’d say no, every book doesn’t deserve to be published. Some simply have no market, so it makes no sense to publish them (either through a publisher or as a self-published book). Others are simply written very poorly. Let’s face it… a lot of people want to be writers, and some people simply can’t write to save their lives. Other books are practically just rips of other books. Do they deserve to be published. What are your thoughts?
I was participating in a forum discussion, and this comment was made: “I do believe that there is a publisher out there for every book ever written, be it a bad or good book. It’s simply a matter of finding the right one.” I personally disagree, but thought “hey… it would make for an interesting discussion,” and I didn’t want to take over the thread with a debate on the topic.
So, if you have thoughts one way or another on whether every book (or even most) deserve to be published (or that there’s a publisher out there for every book), share them here. ![]()

One Response to “Does Every Book Deserve to Be Published?”
I agree that everyone is not meant to write, nor be published. The example I gave some folks was American Idol. When we listen to some of those people, we know immediately that they should get off the stage and just go home. But it seems when it comes to the publishing industry, everyone wants to claim that anyone can sing and get a record deal, um, oops, i mean become a writer and be published.
Anyhoo, I’ve even heard wannabee writers say that everyone has different tastes. But there is a difference between varying genres in music and simply bad music. We all have different tastes, but most people can discern when someone cannot sing and is wasting vinyl by trying. And, wasting the public’s time.
Same for authors. Some should just admit that they can’t hold a literary note and call it a day, dream or not. Those who try for American Idol dream of becoming famous too. I think we should all dream within the realm of reality and ability. Because I most certainly wish (dream) I could fly, but I can’t.
