Some Changes in Store for SixFigureWriters
July 24, 2007 – 5:34 amThere are going to be a few potential changes going on with the structure here at SixFigureWriters.com. One involves a design change. The other involves a potential name change. Please share your thoughts:
1. Blog Theme / Design Change - The current design no longer fits my needs, so it will definitely be changing. As of now, the spacing is simply far too limited for some of the features that I’d like to add (such as a browseable writers’ market database instead of in random posts). I’d like to go with a wider design optimized for higher resolutions (used by the majority of our visitors), and work with a three column layout, either with a column on each side or two right columns sitewide. Any thoughts on that, potential color changes, or anything else along those lines?
2. Name / Domain Change. SixFigureWriters.com was originally chosen as this site’s domain due to the Six Figure Challenge. As you may have noticed, I’m really the only one posting here at this point, and the challenge has pretty much been pushed to the backburner. We made it clear going in that we didn’t all expect to get anywhere near $100k, and that it was more of a learning experience for us and anyone following along. In my own case, I’ve been taking on very few client projects for writing and investing my time into my own sites instead, which is paying off well enough. My freelance writing is a part time (10-20 hours per week) thing, and I’ll be earning a full-time income from it by the end of the year in addition to my consulting work (my “real” full-time business). Considering that I chose to do writing “for myself” predominantly, because I knew it would be the better long-term investment, I’m really happy with the results. So there’s your little SFC update from me. But essentially, I’m not seeing much reason to keep the domain. I may keep it here, or I may move the site to another domain I have - AllFreelanceWriting.com (which would be tied to my blog at AllFreelanceWritingJobs.com - although choose a theme to make them match). Any thoughts on which domain you’d prefer? Either way, all links would be redirected without an issue, so no one would have to update anything like bookmarks, blogroll links, etc.
Feedback would be appreciated. ![]()
