5 Reasons to Launch a Writing Blog

Many writers launch their own writing blogs, whether the blog is to detail their own writing efforts or as a more general resource for other writers. Sometimes a writing blog is started to help a freelance writer demonstrate an expertise within a certain niche. There are plenty of reasons that launching a writing blog can be good for your freelance writing career. Here are a few of those reasons:

1. By launching a writing blog, you’re able to more easily connect with other writers (especially those also blogging), helping you to build your writer network.

2. Blogs can be used as marketing tools. In the case of writing blogs, you would often bring in readers by offering free or interesting information, and the blog would then be connected to your professional site where you’ll be able to convert blog readers into clients.

3. If you’re a Web-based writer, a writing blog can show potential clients that you understand the basics of Web writing.

4. A writing blog launched with the purpose of detailing your own work or career progress can be a motivational tool to keep working towards your goals. It’s harder to slip up when you know others are watching and reading.

5. If your writing blog focuses on a niche or specialty (such as business plan writing, white paper writing, Web content writing, Web copywriting, etc.), you can use the blog to help build your reputation as an expert in that niche. That, in turn, can be a factor in securing future clients, and can put your skills in greater demand.

No matter what your motivation, a writing blog can be a useful tool in your career, whether that be for direct sales and marketing potential, networking, PR value, or simply as a motivating factor to keep you on track with your work.
