Blog Earnings Update for July

MoneyI posted a little while ago about what I did to take my business blog from earning very little to over $2000 in June. This is just a quick update on that blog’s earning progress.

For July it earned a little less, but still a respectable amount. I expected it to be close to $1500, because I slacked off a lot on promoting the sponsored posts early on, and slacked on posting towards the middle of the month.

In July, the blog earned $1840.02. So, it was better than I expected.

On another positive note, the income was a bit more diversified. In June, over half of the income came from one advertiser who purchased links within existing content, in bulk. This past month, that advertiser purchased about half of their amount from June, and the income was still relatively close, with the $160 or so easily accountable by pushing more sponsored posts. I’m pretty happy about that.

I didn’t break down the exact numbers, but Adsense only accounted for around $3. I think I have two of their ads up at the moment. They don’t get many clicks (maybe I should go back to the text ads… they’re just so much uglier). When they do, they seem to pay pretty low (which is unusual, because I used to earn well over $1 per click for a decent number of clicks on this site months back).

I started this month off with a two-day sale on sponsored posts on the site, so that’s been kicking things off nicely for my August earnings, with $90 paid so far and another $155 in sponsored posts and monthly ad payments due today. There are another few monthly ad payments due in a few days (not too bad for being the 4th of the month, and a weekend so soon). So August is shaping up to be another decent month.

Right now my goal with this blog is to earn a minimum of $1500 each month. Of course, I’d be happy to set a new record this month (and every month for that matter!). Now it’s just a wait and see thing… or a work my ass off and then wait and see thing. ;)

So yay for my first trek into blog monetization and diversification. I can’t wait until I have the time to start planning revenue models for my other blogs. You know… I wasn’t sure for a while if I made the right decision in focusing on my own writing this year as opposed to writing mostly for clients. While I certainly won’t hit six figures this year because of that choice, the further I go along, the more I realize that I made the right choice for me in the long run. I love what I’m doing. I’m able to earn decent money while doing that. Really… life doesn’t get too much better than that. :)
