Don’t make the mistake of ignoring a marketing plan as a freelance writer. Some people look at a marketing plan as a waste of time, because they’d rather just jump into every marketing tactic they can think of. There are a few problems with that:
- They may not be differentiating themselves from the competition.
- They may not be using marketing tactics that exert any kind of influence over their target market.
- They may actually be targeting the wrong market for their own goals from the start.
Writing a marketing plan doesn’t have to be difficult. There are a lot of outlines, templates, and samples available. I even have a one page marketing plan template that you can feel free to use as an abbreviated tool if you really don’t want to invest a lot of time into something more formal.
