Weekly Writing Challenge: Make Yourself More Marketable

By on October 14th, 2007

Weekly Writing Challenge - PencilIn this week’s weekly writing challenge, you’re going to look for ways to make yourself a more marketable writer. Think about some of the following things, and choose at least one area to start improving:

  • Would additional credentials make you a more marketable writer in your niche or industry? If so, is there something achievable that you can begin working towards?
  • Are you limiting yourself too much? Is your niche so narrow that there isn’t enough demand? Can you expand to cover additional niches (for example, if you write about freelance writing, could you also write as effectively in a similar niche such as working from home)? Can you expand the type of writing you do (for example, if you’re a white paper writer, could you also start offering other types of reports or e-books)?
  • Do you have too few contacts in your network that can help you bring in new clients? Is there something you can do to grow your network?
  • Are your basic marketing skills limited to begin with? What can you do to improve them? Are there new marketing tactics you can try that would reach your target market and be likely to influence them?
  • Do you really know who you’re competing against? Is it time to re-evaluate your competition?
