The Future of Freelance Writing Jobs on AFW

Writing QuestionI’m considering removing freelance writing job listings from All Freelance Writing, and I want your thoughts (don’t worry… they’re not really going away… maybe just moving).

If you were a reader back when this blog was still SixFigureWriters.com, you may remember that I’d launched a separate blog for freelance writing jobs at AllFreelanceWritingJobs.com. I’m considering moving the job posts (and the job board) back to that domain. Here’s the plan, and why I’m thinking it will be a good idea:

  1. The writing jobs domain is very directly tied to this blog’s domain as it is, so they would still be branded together.
  2. I would use this same theme, and simply treat the blog as an extension of this blog (that’s the plan - I’d like to know your thoughts though on doing that versus a separate theme).
  3. The jobs wouldn’t be linked from the categories menu on this domain anymore (unless I can keep them there with 301 redirects pointing them to the corresponding categories on the new domain), but the “freelance writing jobs” link in the top navigation would point to the other domain.
  4. There are two big reasons I want to do this: 1. My old freelance writing jobs blog had excellent search engine rankings and significant traffic. With the jobs more dispersed here now, the rankings slipped pretty drastically, and traffic to the postings is down. 2. I post over here so much now that the freelance writing jobs quickly get buried on the homepage. The separate site would make it easier for those simply wanting to look for jobs, as they wouldn’t have to dig through everything else, or get to them from the category drop-downs (which are a bit down on the page here).

Any thoughts on the change before I make any final decisions?

  2. Sounds like a smart move to me–as long as I can still find the job postings. :D

  3. I think your #4 reason is plenty for moving it. You want it to be read by the most people. Anyway, that’s my vote!

  4. If your search results have dropped because of having the two together, I’d say you should definitely separate them. What good is it to do all that work if people can’t find you?

  5. Thanks for the feedback ladies. :) I just went ahead and made the changes. Please do let me know if you come across any hiccups. The links should still be in the categories here, but re-directed to the corresponding categories on the freelance writing jobs domain. The “freelance writing jobs” link in the upper navigation should be pointing to the new homepage now. :)

While traffic has been up overall (over the past three separate sites that were merged here), I really do hope that I can get these top ten rankings back on the jobs domain (lost traffic in that group).

And by the way, starting Monday, the freelance writing jobs will be posted DAILY again (and hopefully in larger quantities each day). So be sure to check back then. :)

  6. Makes sense to me…it’ll be nice to have the daily postings.

Do you find all of the jobs yourself or do they get sent to you?

  7. I find the jobs that I post in the lists. People are able to submit their own as well through the job board (which is a paid option), but since it just went up I haven’t pushed it or marketed that yet (and probably won’t until the new domain is settled a bit again).
