2008 Publishing Goals Update

By on February 1st, 2008

Not too long ago, I listed some of my publishing goals for 2008. With the first month out of the way, I wanted to post some updates on my progress so far:

  • $35k through part-time writing – Freelance writing isn’t my full-time job (although I’m hoping to transition that and my own publishing to my full-time work by late Spring or this Summer when I’m hoping to be able to cut down a few consulting contracts). As of now I’m only spending 10-20 hours per week on freelance writing (including marketing, admin work, and such, including writing for my own sites, e-books, etc.). Assuming I stick to that schedule, I’d like that to bring in at least $35k this year by itself, and so far that’s on track with just over $3200 in January.
  • AudioXposure.com – The new theme is also done for this one, and already live on the main domain with one new interview set up for the re-launch. I just need to find the time to do a few more interviews and write a few more music business articles, and then this one will go back on my regular posting schedule as well.
  • AllBookMarketing.com – While there haven’t been many updates yet, I did take care of several email interviews, where I’m now just waiting on responses. I’ll likely send out more next week.
  • Jhmattern.com – My business site has finished its redesign / move to WordPress, including the addition of the new blog there. I won’t be posting there much though until I re-work all of the site copy (including removing some of the services).

How are you doing with your goals so far? I’m feeling pretty optimistic that I’ll make at least most of mine happen this year. Are you still going strong, or do you find that the New Year’s enthusiasm is starting to wear off?

I think my primary goal was to earn enough to support my family. I actually interviewed with a big PR firm here on Tuesday. It was for a web editor position working from home. There are a few other duties involved as well but it pays extremely well.

I don’t expect to get the job (I haven’t heard back yet) but I feel good that I actually got an interview. It makes me think my goals aren’t quite as unreasonable as I thought. :)

I wanted to query more this year, and I am ashamed to report I haven’t sent out a single query.

My web writing goals have stayed the same, no progress, but I haven’t really pushed, so I am not complaining.

On a happy note, I have made some progress on my blog which took up most of my time in Jan., so…it hasn’t been all bad.

    Hi Jenn

Well one of the things I told myself this year was ‘more action, less thinking’. I spent a lot of last year reading other blogs & sites, moaning about my poor financial situation, watching other people progress towards their dreams, thinking about what I wanted to do, but not doing it.

This year, I just put my head down and started working, started trying, started doing.

It’s been hard work, but I’m happy I’m taking action (that was a major problem with me), and for the results I’m getting in return.

    take care…
