February Freelance Writing Challenge

February 1, 2008 – 10:29 am

This month’s challenge is to set up a professional site / portfolio for your freelance writing work (or to improve your current site if you already have one, and if you feel it’s needs some touching up).

I’m not going to walk you through daily step-by-steps this month like with the e-book challenge. It would simply be too difficult with the vast amount of options available (free templates, paid templates, designing from scratch, using a blog platform, using another CMS, etc.). Instead, I’ll be offering you resources (like free Web design software and Web templates) and tips such as basic HTML you should know as a Web writer (look for that tomorrow).

If you have specific questions or things you’d simply like to learn more about in this area, please don’t hesitate to ask, and I’ll tackle them if I’m able to.

  3. I miss you guys too. :( During the beginning of the month (and still now), yes, I’ve had an unusual amount of work keeping my time pretty much monopolized. I haven’t done much, if any, updating on any of my blogs other than posting the daily freelance writing jobs. I haven’t even been keeping up with those this week, as I’ve been away for a funeral. My boyfriend’s grandmother passed last Sunday. Aside from him being extremely close and needing me there for him, I loved her dearly. She was like a surrogate grandmother to me as well, and always made me feel like a part of the family. So I’ve been taking the week off other than a few previously-scheduled client projects to deal with family events and such out of town with everyone.

I’ll likely still be clearing up projects next week, so while I’ll try to post more when I go home (looking like Tuesday) there won’t be a daily posting schedule again until at least March. At that point, we’ll dive into the html, css, etc. and the following month we’ll probably focus on blogs. So I’ll be back at it soon. :)
