Press release writing has been my primary freelance writing specialty for a few years now – actually, it wasn’t so much “freelance” before, but a service offered through my PR firm where I specialized in online public relations before going fulltime as a freelance writer a few weeks back.
I love press releases – when they’re done right. One of my biggest pet peeves are the spammy releases written by writers who don’t understand what news releases are even about (you must have seen some – they litter the Web constantly – YUCK!).
I wrote a short e-book on press release writing, specifically for those writing press releases to be distributed online. When I was selling it, my primary target was webmasters – the clients I often write for.
I recently made some minor updates to the e-book, and have released the new version for free (the original was pulled off the market early this year) as a marketing tool, at least until I finally have time to write a much-expanded guide on the subject which I do plan to sell.
I was thinking – not only might it be of interest to webmasters and small business owners, but to other freelance writers who may be looking to try their hand at press release writing the “right” way. If that’s you, I sincerely hope you’ll download a copy and give it a look.
You can download the e-book from the right column (or download page) of my writing services site – ProBusinessWriter.com.

Hi-
Do you have a list of Press Release Distribution sites? if you have can you post it here or if you have some time you can email it to me..
Your help is highly appreciated
Thanks
I have some listed on my former PR blog – The Big List of Free Press Release Distribution Sites (including some blunt advice on how, or how not to use them).
This is great information. I have been asked to write and distrbute more press releases lately. Thanks so much!
You’re very welcome. I’m glad someone found it useful.
I got a quote request for a press release today. I’ve been wanting to dabble in press release writing more lately and have only written a few so far for a few clients and made up some ‘fake’ press releases of my own in order to test out directions I’ve read in the past.
I quoted the client an intro price (let’s make sure I’m good at these before I charge a fortune!) and then marched straight over here because I remembered that you offered loads of free advice on this topic. Going to devour your ebook over coffee tomorrow morning!
Thank you for making it available for free, Jenn!
