First of all, good morning to everyone out there in freelance writing world!

If any of you visited the site earlier this morning, you may have found it inaccessible – asking for passwords or returning an internal server error. Unfortunately things got messed up on a few of my sites during an upgrade to the server last night. Fortunately though, the nice folks at HostGator took care of it, and things seem to be A-OK now. :)

Also, while looking through things during the fix, I noticed that the new custom ad placements meant ads showed up on the homepage – potentially meaning it would be violating the Adsense TOS if I had ads in more than 2 posts there.

I had a few options:

1. Go back to single-page ads only where they’d have to be in a fixed location and not work very well for some posts (not an option really in my book).

2. Cut the posts per page to 3 and remove the ad at the top of the homepage to make sure only three adsense ads appeared on the page.

3. Start using the “more” feature to cut off posts before the ads (then posts wouldn’t be full in the RSS feed).

Since most users seem to come from RSS and search here, I opted for number 2. I apologize that you’ll see fewer posts per page, but for the bulk of visitors it seemed like the preferable option versus cutting off feeds (something people specifically requested in the past).

  1. The 3 posts option definitely looks like the best on the list.

I don’t know if this was result of the change or not because I never checked but the “Previous Entries” link takes you to a page 2, but still shows the same blog posts.

Thanks for the catch Latoya. Should be fixed now. :)

  3. Yep. It’s working right now.
