I have steam heat which is pretty efficient most of the time, but the robe and warm socks are must-haves in the late afternoon when the heat isn't kicking in....

Do you knit? I had a job for which I needed to work downstairs in the coldest room of the house. I made myself knitted handwarmers which are probably the easiest thing to knit imaginable. They helped a lot! The basic instructions are:

1. knit a rectangle wide enough to go from knuckles to wrist and long enough to go around your hand.

2. sew together except for a tiny hole for your thumb.

If you can't knit, the glove thing should work ;).

I had to do the glove thing at my last apartment. Yikes!

Lemon tea, alternating with hot chocolate that contains a healthy sprinkling of cayenne and cinnamon. Mmmmm... my winter writing fave.

I like cool evenings; they keep my fingers moving to stay warm. I have to admit I often type one-handed becaue I have my infant son on my chest. This gets challenging, but he is keeping me warmer and working.

I will confess that I do the glove thing... cutting of the finger tips and all. I pass on the robe and substitute a good thick pair of sweatpants in their place. I will also confess that I have from time to time stuck my ten little piggies underneath my dog Abbie who sometimes curls up under my desk... I'll call that bonding with the pooch though.

These are necessary things that we're talking about. I have found few things to be as distracting as cold temperature, anything that can be done to stay warm in the winter allows me to concentrate on the task at hand a little better.
