We’ve recently completed the first two months of 2009, so I think it’s a good time to see where we all stand on our goals. What have we accomplished so far? What would we like to make more progress on in the coming month?

Here’s where I stand:

1. I’ve completed over 10,000 words of the novel – not nearly as far along as I’d like to be, but still 10,000 words further along than at the start of the year. I’m going to be attempting a much more aggressive plan on this project starting today – still writing 5 days per week, but aiming for around 2000 words per day. I don’t expect it to be a permanent plan, but even for a week, it will get me back on track.

2. I finished overhauling my music site. Most of the content is still from my reviewer. Wednesday my next music marketing post goes up. I’ve decided to post twice per week there (his review Monday, and my article Wednesday). That should keep it manageable but still updated fairly regularly.

3. The book marketing blog isn’t getting a huge amount of attention, but it’s at least being updated occasionally rather than sitting for weeks at a time. I’m going to try to get a new post up this week, and keep to a weekly schedule for the time being (until I can find more time to devote to it).

4. I’ve been wanting to sell off my writing jobs blog. Right now it’s still sitting, aging. I just need to find a way to monetize it effectively before listing it for auction (it used to monetize well with an Indeed job board, but because they don’t allow you to track boards on separate sites separately stats-wise, I can’t give stats to a buyer – so I removed that).

5. Two of the quick flip sites are completed. I listed them for auction yesterday. They’ll be the ones that let me see what they’ll likely pull in, so I know how to price future ones. As of now, only one had a starting bid ($50), and I’ve set a $100 reserve on both and a $250 BIN (buy it now) price. If they don’t sell by tomorrow when the auction ends, I’ll either start a new auction or hold onto them and monetize them myself (then sell them later for more).

6. I mentioned this recently, but a third of the intended quick flip sites was built – free online courses. I’ve decided to keep it, as it’s not  only fun to work on but proving to be a great income-generator.

7. I haven’t gotten very far on the second Web Writer’s Guide e-book, but I plan to be more agressive with that (as with the novel) over the next few weeks. I’m hoping to have it released in two months at most (a month would be ideal).

8. The first e-book is still selling well, so I’m happy with its progress.

9. I’ve generally been better about posting here at AFW somewhat regularly compared to previous check-ins.

10. I’m still not posting as much as I should be on my business blog.

11. I still haven’t had time to overhaul my old / main business site.

Overall, things are moving in the right direction (although with a few speed bumps along the way). I’m still on track to going from full-time client writing to full-time writing for myself by the end of the year (won’t quit client work completely – it will just become my part-time job).

Some things get neglected in order for other projects to thrive. That’s the nature of the beast I suppose. In general though, I’m happy with this year’s progress.
