What Writing Blogs are Your Must-Reads?

I’ve realized that I really don’t read many other blogs regularly–almost none in fact. It’s usually just a time issue. I subscribe to plenty. I love plenty. I just can’t get to everything I want to read in any given day.

When I do have time to sit down and do some reading (of writing blogs), I generally try to take a peek at ChrisBlogging (Hi Chris!) and About Freelance Writing (Howdy Anne!). Then if I have more time I take a peek at some of the recent comments here at AFW and try to visit some of my readers’ blogs (so be sure to comment!). :)

There are a few others that I don’t visit religiously but that I make a conscious effort to visit – like Lillie Ammann’s blog (Hi Lillie!).

There are also a few (popular) writing blogs that I very rarely visit, because I just can’t get into them–I’ll be nice and not name names though.

Those are probably my most-visited writing blogs, even if I don’t visit them nearly enough. What about you? What writing blogs do you just have to read each day? Don’t just tell us what they are–tell us why you love them! :)

  1. Jenn,
Thanks for including my blog in your favorites. Some writings that I read regularly are Joanna Young’s Confident Writing, Jeanne Dininni’s Writer’s Notes, John Hewitt’s Poewar, Helen Ginger’s Straight from Hel, Karen Swim’s Words for Hire, Lori Widmer’s Words on the Page, and several others. These blogs make me think, inform me, and inspire me. Many of the blogs I read are author and book blogs rather than writing blogs.

  2. No problem Lillie. Yours is one of the few not specifically about freelancing that I try to get back to when I can. And thanks for mentioning a few others – I haven’t heard of most of them, but I’ll be sure to give them a look. :)

  3. Yo

I like The Freelance Zone (http://freelance-zone.com/blog/) Joe and Catherine don’t pull punches, and I like that. Freelance Switch (http://freelanceswitch.com/) usually has good info, although I find it a little conservative (read: safe) for my tastes. Copyblogger (http://www.copyblogger.com/) is interesting to me, since I don’t specialize in copywriting I always learn something from him.

  4. Copyblogger is one I glance at once in a while, but (perhaps oddly) it never really sucks me in.

I like FreelanceSwitch too, but I often forget to go back. For example, if I check and there’s nothing new relevant to me (perhaps they’ve been specific to designers lately), then I usually don’t go back for a while because I simply forget about them. So I like them, but because of the mixed topics I don’t usually look at them in the feed reader – I just go back manually when I think of it.

Freelance Zone sounds familiar, so I’ll have to give them a look.

Thanks for sharing your favs! :)

  5. I am usually sucked in my Men With Pens. And I agree about Freelance Switch, once I realized they were also doing a lot of blog entries for designers too, it went off my list. Which tells me a lot about the need to really focus, focus, focus. For internet blog readers anyway.

  6. I like the Blood Red Pencil (http://bloodredpencil.blogspot.com/) and Christina Katz’ Writer Mama Riffs (http://thewritermama.wordpress.com/).

  7. Emity

My only true must-read, that I read every single post, is Marta Writes (http://martawrites.blogspot.com/) — it’s more creative writing and personal stuff though, not freelancing. And I also am a CopyBlogger fan, although their content is updated way too frequently for me to commit to reading every post. I’m starting to really get into this one, too, although I just discovered you about a week ago…
