When I first started marketing my writing services, I had no idea where to begin, let alone how to focus my message on my target audience. I think my biggest marketing mistake was trying to randomly reach out to EVERYONE. This is excellent advice!
That’s actually really common, so you’re not alone in it. :) It’s actually one of the reasons some higher-level writers feel like they have to compete with the penny-per-word crowd when they really don’t – they see buyers who are ordering from someone else, and mistake two separate markets for one supposed “global writer’s market” which simply doesn’t exist. We definitely can’t be everything to everyone though, so it’s good that you realize that. As soon as you know who you’re not targeting, it becomes much easier to find the types of clients that you are. :)
