hmm, I may have messed up. I thought you meant queries as in magazine queries. I did do a lot of pitching/answering job ads in my early days.

Hmmmm. Methinks, considering my lack of experience, a combination of the two will work best. As you mentioned, tech advances cut down a lot of the wait on querying, but I also want some of my work gathering to be fairly automatic. I think I'll look more deeply into making good queries while gathering any strategies you lay down on building a query-free platform. The best of both worlds!

You never disappoint Jenn! I found this extremely informative. I have been freelancing full-time for going on three years and am nowhere near done defining what I want to do as a writer. Your Web Writer's Guide helped me with a great deal of that-I am sure that I want to write authority web content-I am just not sure what. Because of the nature of authority web content, I understand that one strategy I could employ would be to query with a fury now and consistently maintain my built platform later. Referrals add a residual element to writing for hire that is entirely welcome: you did quality work once for one client, it exponentially brings you countless more.
I am really looking forward to more blog posts in this series. I would like to learn more strategies I could employ to reach my goals. Such as, will authority blogs, articles and content sites of my own drive clients to me? How can I operate different types of writing-market and build a platform? I write about business, real estate and finance now and love it, but I wonder about another niche I would like to pursue: adult/sex/erotica writing. I would want to write more authority web content in articles, blogs and content but I understand that, while I may see it as another niche of business, it isn't just another related niche in my current platform.
I look forward to your insights, and the insights of the well-picked guests!
Thanks, and have a great day!
