Excellent advice! This blog really is chock-full of goodness!! :)

Well, my first recent magazine articles were query-free :) I just called the local mag on the phone (something I later found is sometimes called 'pre-query') & asked the assistant editor if they'd be interested in a series on the chosen topic, explaining my interest & what we've done so far at home (unique selling position). so hmm, if all editors were this easy to speak to..? :)

As far as social networking goes, the people that I've got the most work from have been magazine editors, the ones that are IN OFFICE, permanent workers! Find THEM on LinkedIn, FB, blogs, etc. :)

This is all great advice. If I were a freelance anything I would start off with outsourcing sites too, like VOIS, and I would make sure I start a Blog. It's true, you have to be really involved in the tech community if you want to get recognized. Freelancers can also go on Facebook and join local groups. Collaboration is one step closer to success!
