Thanks for catching that. Fixed it. :) It was a leftover problem from a site merge and redirection.

Using Blogspot for a professional site is, well, unprofessional. So we won't be providing any Blogspot themes. These freebies are for freelance writers building professional sites and careers -- not for any old niche blog on a free platform. If you do a search, you'll find a post we did on that topic in the past covering why free blog hosting isn't really appropriate for professional sites.

Grrrrr. I just did the long post about it, but Depeche won't work unless you manually upload the theme. Grrrrr again. I tried to write the easiest way possible, but I'll have to change it tomorrow to show a manual installation. I'll publish what I have now, and just show how to do the manual upload in a separate post tomorrow I think. At least it will get you started.

I usually use GoDaddy for domains and HostGator for hosting blogs, so yes, you should have Fantastico (smiley face in your control panel there).

My personal opinion is that it's always better to host your own blog rather than going with Wordpress.com, blogspot, etc. (at least when dealing with professional blogs). It looks more professional, you have more freedom in how you're allowed to monetize them, and if you later choose to move it you'll be able to use redirects so you don't lose links and traffic like you would with giving up a free blog. Just my $.02 on that issue.

Cpanel (the control panel in your HostGator hosting) can definitely be a bit confusing until you get used to it. I've learned to love it though, and I hope you do too. :)

If I can find the time tomorrow after client work, I'll do a post on setting up an add-on domain and Wordpress using Cpanel. I should have some domains sitting around. I'll do it with one of them so I can take screenshots for you, and I'll add it here as a post. No worries. We'll make sure you get things setup and hopefully you'll get more comfortable with it. :)

Hmm, I answered this and now it's gone. :( I have a free blog on Wordpress. I also have a domain name. Is it better to use the domain on the blog or do a blog and a website?

I get my domains from GoDaddy and my other site is hosted through HostGater. The other one is just parked on GoDaddy. I haven't done anything with it or the blog.

I don't know about Fantastico so I'll have to check and let you know.

I know how to blog for the most part. And I know the basics for building a website. What I find most confusing is if I want multiple domains on my hosting account. The whole dashboard confuses me. I don't know where things should go or anything. I uploaded my original website but I don't understand how to update or make changes to it. I guess I need a book on how to use the hosting service or something. It's just all over my head.

This is probably beyond the scope of what you're wiling to teach, and to be more clear I need to go in and look at it all. My Internet has been down all day so I'm behind. :( I'll go in and look at everything tomorrow so I can actually make my questions make sense. ;)
