In that case, here's what you should do. First, open up your header.php file (from the Appearance > Editor section in your WP admin area). Copy and paste everything in that file to a new Notepad document so it's saved, just in case this doesn't work. Then look for this in your header.php:

<li class="page_item <?php if (is_front_page()) echo('current_page_item');?>"><a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>"><?php _e('Home', 'vigilance') ?></a></li>

After that, you type this:

<li class="page_item"><a href="http://filmscoreclicktrack.com">Blog</a></li>

Then you'll just want to go into the WP page editor section of the menu - under pages in the navigation - and remove the page called "Blog" right now. then you should just have the one (correct) blog link.

All you're basically doing is inserting a list item link in the right place, and then deleting an empty page. Hope that works, but if not, I'll have another look.

Everything is done on Wordpress. And I know this is going to be incredibly simple once I see how it's done, but damned if I can figure it out. LOL

Okay. I pulled up the source code in the browser (what search engines actually see), but it could be different in your actual source files. That depends on what you're using on the backend. If you're using a cms like Wordpress, let me know. If not, you can send me a file or two to take a peek at to jenn(at)queryfreefreelancer(dot)com and I'll find it for you. It should be very easy once I see what you're seeing.

Well, I guess I couldn't figure out how to switch the "Blog" tab over to my "real" blog. I thought I could change the Permalink, but it doesn't appear so. And I keep looking for where to put the HTML you gave me but I'm just not finding out where to put it. This is probably a stupid question, but where would I find the source code? I've looked in every PHP file but can't find it. So frustrating. Oh well, I'm done for the day. I'll tackle it again tomorrow.

P.S. I switched to a different theme (and may switch again, who knows) and this one seems a bit cleaner.

1. I'd leave the "Home" link alone. That's how most sites seem to be setup these days -- with a home link that shows up sitewide for people who don't think to click the logo to get there. So it's not a big deal for it to show on the homepage -- it's more about keeping the menu looking consistent sidewide than anything for that page. Otherwise buttons shift and silly people get confused.

2. You already have a blog tab. So all you need to do is change the link associated with it to point to your other site. Open up the html / source code for your page (if your navigation's not on a separate file, then you'll have to make this change on every static page -- I can't tell if you're using a cms or a fully static site). Anyway... find this:

<a href="http://jameslochner.com/blog/" rel="nofollow">Blog,</a>

Just replace the URL there -- jameslochner.com/blog/ -- with your blog URL -- filmscoreclicktrack.com

That's all there is to it. :)

So it's 9/21 and I'm just getting to Day 7. Ugh. Anyway, I'm having two issues and was wondering if you had any suggestions. I've Googled until I'm blue in the face but can't find the answers.

1) I want this particular site to be a static site for my writing business. I put the site up back in February and haven't done anything with it. It needs LOTS of work, but I'll fix all that as I go along with your bootcamp. Anyway, I have a static "welcome" page for the homepage and want to get rid of the "home" tab since they're both the same thing. How do you get rid of it? (or vice versa)

2) I want to have a "Blog" tab that takes visitors directly over to my film score blog (FilmScoreClickTrack.com). I know there's a way to do it but I can't find the answer to this one as well.

Any help you could provide (or links) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Don't worry too much about them being accurate in a standard sense. Just note on the rates page that they're averages or something and that rates can vary based on project specs (and that you'll quote them privately when you discuss the details). :)
