3 Month Make Money Blogging Challenge – Day 2

It’s day two of my 3-month experiment to show you my usual process for turning a brand new blog into at least a 3-figure monthly money-maker quickly. The blog is up and good to go. I won’t be spending a huge amount of time on it today. Here’s the plan:

  1. I’m currently using some Commission Junction affiliate ads on the site. I don’t care for them though. Their tracking is clunky and their advertisers pay ridiculously slow compared to most other options out there (they’re so worried about advertisers that they really don’t seem to care much about publishers — silly of course since without plenty of quality publishers, the advertisers would have no reason to use them anyway — but I digress). I checked out the Google Affiliate Network this morning and was really disappointed. The offerings there were slim, and many of the advertisers were ones I’d never allow my sites. On top of the poor selection, they were also organized badly (VistaPrint in Domain registrations and Web hosting? Um, no.). So I’ll leave the CJ ads alone for right now, but I’ll also keep on looking over the rest of this week. Ideally I’d like to use ClickBank for any affiliates, but I’ll have to dig a bit. The chances of me finding things there in my niche (and that don’t royally suck) are pretty slim.
  2. Still debating whether or not to put up an ad for my own e-book. I did originally, but then removed it because there’s no easy way to track that sales actually came from that site. I mean, it wouldn’t be that difficult to check out sale times and who sent the traffic to my e-book site then in the site stats (not a high traffic site where there’s a lot to dig through), but I don’t know. I’ll decide one way or the other on that one today I think.
  3. I’ll be writing a new post for the blog today. As per the 30 day marketing bootcamp exercises there, I’ll try to stick to three posts per week for now (to get in the habit of posting and to get the site populated with some content).
  4. I’ll also be following today’s bootcamp excercise (in short I’ll be using blog linking and blog commenting to bring the new site to the attention of others in my niche audience).

That’s the plan. Coming along nicely so far.

  1. Would it be better to have a large amount of content before tying to get ads and what ads are you getting? Can I make a living income from adsense type ads?

  2. You don’t need a large amount of traffic to get ads. Adsense can be used on new sites, as can something like ClickBank affiliate ads. On the site I’m currently using Adsense and Commission Junction. I’ll be releasing a small information product on the new site both to garner attention and to earn some more direct revenue soon (probably next week — it’s a part of the marketing bootcamp series we’re doing over at QueryFreeFreelancer.com, w/ those information products being our focus starting today). It’s very unlikely that you’re going to make a living income solely from adsense ads, especially on a new blog. It’s possible, but you’ll have to be in a niche that pays well for cpc ads and you’ll have to have lots of traffic to increase overall click-throughs. I like to consider things like Adsense to be supplemental income — they shouldn’t be a primary focus for most sites. The only reason I’m even using them on this new blog is because I know the niche does very well with Adsense from experience and keywords / ad research. Living incomes are much more likely to come from private ad deals (which will come as you get more traffic, if you want them — on AFW for example I won’t accept them) or from selling your own products instead of promoting someone else’s. It’s all stuff we’ll cover during the process. :)
