That first report idea was actually my first concept, but then I wondered if that would work for me, given the context of my blog. I really like the second idea, though, so I will probably have to steal it :V I'll see if I can draft it up this week. If not, it's a good thing to focus on for next week's Big Marketing Goal.

It's not a bad idea. But remember... when you're writing something to convey authority, it's best to write about your area of expertise. Samples of your style of writing in the specialty area are more for your portfolio. In your case, for example, you could have done a short report on how humor can improve sales copy conversions or 10 tips to inject humor into a blog if you're not a naturally funny person. Those are the kinds of things you'd want to use to supplement the samples / portfolio pieces, so keep that in mind if you decide to do another one in the future. :)

I decided to approach this a bit differently. I basically wrote a short humor ebook. The thing about humor is that you can't really "pitch" it. It has to be executed for someone to judge if they like it or not. That being said, I'm hopeful that my short little humor ebook can be used as a solid piece to sell my services to my targer market.

...though now that I think about it, maybe I should've written it about video games or something :V
