So there’s a teeny, tiny chance that I will come out of all of this with sleep AND sanity in tact? Seriously? What about the state of my house, the effort to climb laundry piles and remembering to erase the doodles my 7-year-old leaves in the surface dust?? Can it be done? Tell it to me straight?

Honestly though, the satisfaction and experience I gain through it all is well worth the insanity. And pretty much every single day is different, so there’s always the opportunity to evolve, repair and repent work and mommy habits. It’s the ultimate WIP.

Please do discuss toddlers… pretty please. I’d love to hear how the rest of you cope!

Oh toddlers. How I love them – the snotty noses, sweet smiles and sticky fingers. Toddlers are definitely a special breed and deserve some consideration. I’ll make a point to address my own toddler dramas in my next post in a couple of weeks.

I hope many many prego mom freelancers learn this. The true freedom and earning power (for me) came when the kids went to school. Do one on toddlers. A lot of toddler mommies write me at about.com with these notions that a laptop that they can take from room to room will solve all their freelance writing needs.

I actually tended to get a lot done those first six months…once the baby becomes mobile, though, it’s time to hire a nanny or cut hours or something’s gotta give! Because you can’t write a single sentence without wondering if they’re off chewing on an electrical cord somewhere…

Never let go of your glistening eyed fantasies! I’m a realist but a dreamer at heart. I will say it is far easier to work with one at home than two, but having a baby is a huge adjustment in its own right – having one on top of a career you’re working like a dog to maintain and build is a pretty substantial life change.

I’d recommend a nice savings account or a partner who can shoulder the burden of the bills during the first few months to give you time to adjust. I didn’t have either of those to any great extent unfortunately, but I survived and the little men and I are better for it.

Enjoy your dreams – it’s the best part of pregnancy (and thinking about pregnancy)
