One of the best ways to market your services as a freelance writer is through your own website. Believe it or not, many writers do not have a website – this is a big mistake. With your own site clients can find you 24/7. In other words, you are marketing your services but do not have to put a lot of time and effort into doing so.

Why do so many writers neglect to create their own service based website? The main reason is that they do not know what information to include. Below are four pages that you definitely want to have on your site:

1. About. Who are you? What do you do? Prospective clients will navigate to this page to see who they will be dealing with if they decide to move forward. It is important that you not only have an about page, but that it is full of accurate information that puts you in the best possible light.

2. Contact. Simply put, people need a way of getting in touch with you. It does not matter if you include your email address or a contact form as long as you do one or the other. If there is no way for prospective clients to get in touch you might as well take your site down.

3. Samples or links to published work. Before being hired for a project you are almost always going to be asked for samples. Why not cut out one step of the process by including samples on your site? If this does not work, you can always link to “live pages” that feature some of your past work. More samples may be requested in the future, but at the very least this is a good start.

4. Testimonials. Ask some of your past clients to write a testimonial. By including this on your website you can show that others have successfully relied on your services in the past.

As a freelance writer you need a website. Make sure you include the above information, as well as any other details that you find important.
