One of the biggest perks of being a freelance writer is the fact that we can work wherever and whenever we prefer. But does location even matter? After all, we can take a laptop just about anywhere these days.
There's no single answer that's going to cover all freelancers here. For example, I know writers who can write at their local coffee shop or library. On the other hand, I find that difficult. I prefer solitude when I write (perhaps I just get easily distracted).
I do my best work from a home office. And having a room with a door I can close if necessary is essential. I have a more difficult time working if I even know people are around (whether I can see them or not). I can be a bit neurotic about it. I don't need silence, but I do need solitude. Go figure. (Then again, I'm sure I'll learn to adapt just fine when kids are involved.)
What about you? Are you one of those freelancers who can work from pretty much anywhere? Or do you need the structure of an office environment (or some other work area)?
