As I mentioned previously, I am discontinuing my Web Writer’s Guide e-book. There are a few reasons for this.
Why I’m Retiring the Web Writer’s Guide
- The focus on Web writers was too limiting, especially given that most information in the e-book could apply equally well to other freelancers.
- The Web Writer’s Guide brand was supposed to result in a series of e-books. Instead there were only two — this one and a workbook-only version of this one (which will also be discontinued). Moving forward we will still have a series of e-books. But they will be published under The Query-Free Freelancer brand to tie into my first print book for freelance writers.
- Frankly, the e-book was due for an update anyway.
The information in this e-book will still be available in the future, but in several shorter e-books under the new brand. The content will be edited, updated, and expanded — just broken up into specific interest areas. The forms and worksheets might be released in workbook form, although I will likely sell those as very low-priced individual downloads or small download packs that group together similar resources.
When Will it Retire?
The e-book as-is will only be available through the end of November.
While the e-book will no longer be available for sale after that time, if you previously purchased it but never downloaded it, your download link should still work. If you’ve used your download link already, it has now expired.
In that case, if you lose your e-book you can email me directly at jenn@allfreelancewriting.com from the email address you used to pay, or you can email me your name and the transaction ID you received when you made your purchase. If you do that, I can reactivate your download link or manually send you the files.
E-book Retirement Sale
From now until the end of November, you can get The Web Writer’s Guide at 50% off its regular $37 price. That means you’ll pay just $18.50.
To get this discount, you must enter coupon code RETIREMENT when you place your order.
Moving Forward
Several new e-books are in the works under The Query-Free Freelancer brand. Two are expected to be released before the end of this year. Those two e-books will not contain content previously found in the retiring e-book. That content will be released in a series of short e-books due out in 2013.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment or email me directly.

Friday “Off Days” Are Still Busy | Avid Writer
Ha! Great minds are thinking alike…I’m just doing a half-price sale on my own ebook and then withdrawing it. Except I’m only offering the deal for 1 week, and that’s it. Fascinated that you’ve got such a long sale time…we should compare notes on which works out better.
Seems like people do love these sort of deals, and then it also has the plus of giving me a deadline by which I need to get the rewrite done.
There’s no particular strategy with this one other than the fact that I said I was retiring the e-book before year’s end and hadn’t yet announced the date. I want it off the market before December, when the new e-books start coming out. I’m too busy working on those to worry about promoting this one anymore, and I don’t plan to update it. So I’ll let a discount do most of the promotion for me. Not too worried about sales numbers here. The fewer people who have this one, the more customers there are for the shorter versions when I split this content up.
I’m sure most people who want this one already have it anyway.
Besides, I wrote this one as an introductory guide for people getting started. And the last quarter is when a lot of folks start thinking about these things — planning for a new business in the new year. If they’re looking for reference material to do that, they can get a copy while they’re in the planning phase. I probably wouldn’t have extended it so long if it weren’t for that and the fact that I don’t want to be bothered with the old e-book when I’m dealing with holidays and family drama in November. Gotta love the holiday season. Can we just skip ahead to January?
You’re right about already having it, Jenn. When I started my freelancing business in 2008, I was fortunate enough to land on your site and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I think that’s when this one originally came out too. How time flies, right? I think you just made me feel old Cathy.
I could make you feel a WHOLE lot younger with my age at my birthday next month. But, if you call me Mom, I may need to hurt you.
One mom and a m-i-l is plenty, thanks. And I already have an Aunt Cathy, so you’re safe there too.
Jenn, one of the things I like about you is you plan it out in front of us and then follow through. I remember you mentioning this back in the summer sometime. I love that you’re doing it, too. It was a great idea then, and it’s a great idea now!
Cathy, if you’re old, I’m ready for retirement, too.
I don’t do that quite as much as I used to. Nowadays it’s more a case of rambling thoughts before I have enough caffeine pumping through my veins.
As for the e-book, honestly I just want to get through November and pull it. I’m excited to get all the newer material out under the new branding.
