How to Write a Blog Business Plan

By on December 12th, 2012

Between Lori Widmer’s focus on business planning this month at Words on the Page and the fact that I’m overhauling my own business plan for 2013, I’ve had business plans on the brain. When I first went into business for myself (full-time PR firm, part-time writing and blogging), I had a pretty standard formal business plan. But over the years I went with a much simpler model. I’ve even released the templates I use here, so feel free to use them for your own short-form planning. One Page Business Plan One Page Marketing Plan One Page Project Planner This year …

New Blog Sneak Peak: WritingForBloggers.com

By on October 9th, 2012

I’ve recently talked about some new author websites I launched for my fiction writing pen names. But I’ve also been working on several new niche websites and blogs. Today I’d like to give you a sneak peek of my newest site for writers — WritingForBloggers.com. Writing for Bloggers is pretty self-explanatory. It’s about helping bloggers become better writers and improve their blogs in the process. It will cover things like: Content Strategy – Coming up with a long-term blog publishing plan Content Marketing – Ways improved writing skills can help you market your blog Copywriting – Moving between content writing and copywriting when …

Apologies for the Last Post

By on January 26th, 2012

If you follow this blog in your feed reader or get email subscriptions, you might have seen a post earlier today about a six figure challenge. You should not have received that post, and I’m sorry. This blog used to be a group blog called Six Figure Writers and it revolved around that old challenge. The post that displayed as new was actually from 2006 or 2007. I’ve since re-dated it to get it back to the archives where it belongs. I’m not sure yet how it happened. But I suspect it’s a result of a new plugin here which I’m …

Some Design Changes Coming to All Freelance Writing

By on February 25th, 2010

I like our current blog design a lot, but I’m still going to be implementing some changes in coming weeks. I want to optimize our load time by cutting down on some of the images, and I’ll be tweaking fonts, colors, etc. a bit (the general color scheme won’t change). I don’t feel like dealing with a complete overhaul, so the site structure will stay the same. These will mostly be surface changes. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up so you know what’s going on if things suddenly look different.

Setting Up a Website or Blog: My Favorite Resources

By on May 27th, 2008

I’ve mentioned repeatedly in the past that I think all freelance writers could benefit from having their own professional website and / or blog to showcase their writing and niche expertise. Today I’m going to share my own favorite resources – the tools and services I use repeatedly when setting up new sites or blogs, and why I use them. Web Hosting I have hosting accounts with three different companies, but currently am only actively using one – HostGator (the others are set up for sites I’m developing that I want kept separate from the rest). I don’t think I …
