Anne Wayman has a great post up on 7 Ways Freelance Writers Can Write More Efficiently

My favorite tactic is scheduling (which Anne includes in her suggestions). Without a schedule, I'd get almost nothing finished.

How about you? What lets you work most efficiently?

Yep, scheduling is a must for me, too. I also like outlines. Maybe it's because I do so many white papers and longer documents, but I also find it helps organize my thoughts for shorter articles and all writing. Whenever I skip that part, I take longer to write.

I'm with you on outlines. I use them for everything from blog posts to books.

Maybe because I went to a school where nearly every damn thing had to be outlined, I'm averse to any formal one. But I "outline" my articles by coming up with a title and subheads. That gives them enough structure to help me fly through the rest of the process.

I schedule my work day the night before or even the week before. I have virtual sticky notes on my desktop, so I just open a new one and list what has to be done the next day, or what has to be done on which day that week. I'm into simplicity. Like I've mentioned to Anne before, if I started organizing my to-do list, that's all I'd do. I organize everything, and I must be stopped! LOL

That's about the extent of my outlines for blog posts and articles. I go into more detailed ones for larger projects, but never a huge amount of detail. Like you said, it's largely about structure.

I am such a person who really gets used to something. Routine is very important part of my life. I can't juststop dealing with something if I've been doing it regularly for a substantial period. And freelance writing is not an exception. In this way I always manage to cope with it.Wink

Speaking about writing it is really important for me to choose right topic which I am interested in. Otherwise, when I'm bored, I have no motivation to dwell upon a given theme. Being enthusiastic is something which can make the work more exciting. In this way I do want to complete my work and I do manage to do this.

I agree. It's usually much better when you're excited about a project. :)

And what about financial motivation?Smile It's for sure that you'll work much more accurate if you are to get substantial sum of money.

I'd say you should be earning a "substantial sum" for all of your work, so hopefully that applies to every gig you get. :)
