As I watched my husband walk out the door this morning to drive to work, I had a strange thought. I realized that I actually miss my old morning commute (just a little bit).

Don't get me wrong. I love not losing three hours per day driving (I had a long commute). And I love not having to pay for so much fuel. But there were some perks of that commute.

First, I would use part of it to catch up on the news. I don't do that as often in the morning now. I'll turn on NPR occasionally (like right now), but it can be a bit of a distraction. So I'll only listen to it while I'm checking my comments or forum.

Second, I would use part of my morning commute to belt out tunes. Why? Because it's fun. And it's awesome for relieving stress. Again, here I rarely do that.

None of this is to say I'd rather have my morning commute back. I think I was just feeling a bit nostalgic watching him head out as I simply shuffled into another room to start my work day.

Is there anything that you miss (but didn't expect to) about a regular 9-5 style job? Tell us about it.

Jenn

I loved commuting for plenty of free time I had on a road. I loved thinking. So many interesting thoughts and ideas were crossing my mind then. However, there are so many useful things to do during the time saved.

I occasionally miss singing along to the radio or a long morning NPR listening session. But I suppose I can always do those things in my home office too. I just need to convince myself that the neighbors can't hear me. ;)
