OfflineIf you haven't heard yet, Yahoo! (which purchased Associated Content), had a security breach recently. It led to a list of email addresses and passwords being posted online. And writers were the victims.
If you signed up for Associated Content before 2010, you're at risk. Whether you were a regular contributor, you signed up to test it out, or you just registered but never used the service, you may be on the list. I was.
Hopefully you've changed your password since 2010. But I know sometimes we forget. I'm sure I still have old passwords on some sites I rarely use. But there's no time like the present for an update.
What can you do?
- If you tend to use the same password for site registrations and your email account, change the password for your email account right away. If someone else gets access to your email account, they can use it to change passwords on other accounts.
- Check financial accounts associated with that email address, and update your passwords if necessary. Report any suspicious activity you might find.
- Set new passwords for other sites if you used the same password. Moving forward, try to use different passwords for different websites so if something like this happens again, having a single password exposed won't put other accounts at risk.
Were you affected?
