OfflineMy name is Marlece and I am new to serious freelance writing. I write as a hobby and have thought of freelancing for several years, but just never took the the plunge. It was only recently that I realized my timidness was a result of not knowing how to run a business. It is intimidating! I am pretty certain of my niche, which is parenting children with autism spectrum disorders. My own son has autism and he gives me great inspiration.
I have read some great posts here about running a freelance business and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Hi, Marlece! Congrats on taking the plunge. By "writing as a hobby", what do you mean? Are there any sites or publications in particular you've been writing for?
You're right about the business part of writing (which I think might be the biggest part) being intimidating… It's something I've been focusing on to take my freelancing to the next level. I'm sure you'll find good advice about that and other writing-related things around AFW.

OfflineHi Brie
I wrote exactly four articles for a content mill before i realized that was not the path I wanted to take. It just seemed to me that there had to be a better way! As a hobby, I enjoy creative writing. However, that is not what I am interested in doing as far as freelancing is concerned. At least not right now:) I am a self proclaimed research addict as far as my interest in autism is concerned. At this point, my focus is on learning about the nuts and bolts of freelancing and improving my writing skills. I don't want to jump in without knowing what I am doing. I have started mapping out my goals and objectives for the next 3 months, and hope to be spending more time freelancing and less time clocking in at my day job within the year.
Sounds like a good plan! I inadvertently began freelance writing a few years ago when I learned that I could get paid to write articles online -- how cool was that?!
But over time, as I began to look at writing as my job, I also realized that there had to be a better way. I was working hard to turn in good work but getting paid so little that it had become too stressful.
This site, as well as ones like Make a Living Writing and FreelanceSwitch, and books like The Well-Fed Writer and The Wealthy Freelancer, are pretty helpful. (No, none of those are affiliate links. LOL) I also have a site (in my signature) with links to freelancing sites. I like putting it all in one place for people.
Thanks for saying hi! Best wishes in your career.

OfflineHi! Everyone my name is Richard! I write as a hobby too. But this hobby gives not bad reward. At first I got scanty incomes. But today situation is different. I work for numerous writing services. Freelance writing helps me to improve my skills in different fields of science. I prepare articles about history and policy. This is my cup of tea. Couple of month I have written articles for http://www.essaywriters.net/ They are not bad. Moreover, they pay good money.

Ops…. forgot one thing I heard that they proposes some stuff: writer should add to login combination_777 (underscore triple seven) and then applicant's first earnings will be doubled. Essaywriters guarantee steady income and career opportunities. I'm interested in it))))

OfflineHi Jenn, and everyone else. I'm new to the forums myself and should probably post in a new thread. But I notice we're invited to consider essaywriters.net a viable work option. It's worth pointing out they have a checkered reputation:

Oh, and since this is supposed to be Marlece's shout out to the writing world… however shaky you feel about the business end of things, at least you know your niche. That gives you a leg up.

OfflineWelcome Frank!
Thanks for your thoughts on that site. We're always happy to have people share this kind of information so other forum members can get a better idea of the full picture before they decide if a site or service is right for them.

OfflineFrank, this is a controversial topic. I have written there about my own experience.

OfflineThere's no problem with that either Richard. There are plenty of controversial companies out there in the publishing world these days. Content mills are a great example. And even though they won't ever have my support for professionals, I've said they're fine for certain people (hobbyists looking to make a few bucks for example). There are always two sides, and when it comes to new sites (or those new to the reader), there's nothing wrong with them hearing about both of those sides so they can decide if it's right for them. If this one has worked out for you, that's wonderful.
