OfflineI am taking a series I did on my business writing blog and converting it into an ebook. It's a step-by-step plan for creating a business communication plan. I intend to include sample forms for various stages of the plan.
Here's my question(s).
- Do you think there would be an interest in receiving a template form (probably in an Excel format-but very simple to use) as opposed to just the pdf format for the ebook? And do you think people would be willing to pay more for that option? In other words – XX$ for the ebook and a bit higher for the ebook + the interactive templates.
- Would it make sense to do an ebook with no sample forms and offer one with the forms for a bit higher? Am I totally over thinking it? Probably.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to let me know what your buying tendency would be. Thanks so much.

OfflineHere are my thoughts:
1. Yes, I can see people being interested in an actionable form along with the e-book. As for paying more, that I'm less sure about. If they're already receiving a copy in one format, I'm not sure they'd want to pay more just to be able to use it digitally. If the version in the pdf e-book is already filled in as an example (with no blank one), I'd say it's more likely to be marketable as a standalone products.
2. I probably wouldn't do two versions of the e-book. I can just imagine the confused emails from people who didn't understand that up front, or who bought one but now want to upgrade to the other version. I think two separate products would be easier, and it gives you more of a chance to up-sell.
I think my biggest concern as a potential customer would be the single form issue. I could see if being much more marketable if you had the e-book, and then a separate short workbook with several types of forms and templates to help them build a business communication plan.
Just my $.02.

OfflineThanks, Jenn. Always helpful. I have a question about your last point. There are 10 parts to the plan. Each part would have a template, but only one version for each part. I like the idea of a workbook. So, is your idea that the ebook is one product and the workbook a 2nd product?

OfflineYes. That's what came to mind. You could do that, include it with the e-book and charge a bit more for it, or use it as an extra freebie to encourage e-book sales in general. It really depends if you think it would work as a standalone product or if removing it from the e-book detracts from the e-book's value too much.
