We've been having problems here lately with "subtle spammers." These are people who sign up for multiple accounts under different names and then post seemingly relevant comments in forum threads. They usually do this to aggressively self-promote later or get more backlinks in a signature when they add them.

And I've had enough of it.

The rule here is one account per person, period. If I find someone posting under multiple handles, pretending to be two different people, all accounts and posts related to that activity will be deleted at my discretion. If it continues further, your IP address will also be banned from future signups.

Keep it ethical please folks. You're here to network with other writers. Do it under your own name or your known pen name or usual handle. And only post from a single account.

Thank you.

Jenn

Unfortunately this forum has been hit hard by spammers lately. So for everyone's safety (because we don't want them on here, able to post malicious links), I had to adjust our spam settings.

Moving forward, all new members will need to have their first forum post approved before they can continue to post. Because the settings were just turned on, that might also affect existing members for their first post following the change (that's how the forum software used to handle changes, although I'm not sure if they fixed that with their latest updates).

I've also implemented the anti-spam feature on all posts -- a simple math problem. I may disable that again later if it becomes too much of a nuisance for people, but for now I want to do all we can to keep these spammers off of the public boards.

Thanks for your understanding.

Jenn

As you may have read in another thread here recently, our forum software was severely overdue for a software upgrade. I just finished that upgrade.
The forum platform's old design template system is no longer supported. As a result, I had to re-integrate the forum into our site design using the new theme system. While it's mostly complete, I may make a few adjustments in the future -- such as new forum icons or minor color tweaks.

If you run into any problems post-upgrade, please let me know so I can look into them.

I'm back after my wedding and honeymoon starting today, and I'm thrilled. While I ended up working over part of my break, the rest overall felt great. And I'm feeling refreshed and ready to get back to some normalcy. More importantly, now that I'm no longer settling into the new place and planning a wedding, I'll finally have more time for my own sites and projects again.

So after our last guest post on the blog today, I should finally be back to regular posting here. And speaking of which, a huge thank you to all of our guest posters and regular contributors who kept All Freelance Writing moving along in my absence, and an extra special thank you to contributor Rebecca Garland for making sure your comments got approved when I wasn't here to manage the comment stream.

That also means we'll be getting back to daily discussions here in the forum, so I hope you're still with me.

Jennifer Mattern on New Comment Moderation Changes

If you've recently posted to these forums, you may have noticed that your post was awaiting administrator approval. That's because I had to change some spam settings as we were being bombarded by spammers over the last week or so.

The new settings shouldn't affect most members beyond their first posts. The first time you post, the comment needs to be moderated. Once you have an approved post, you should be able to comment freely, with no delay.

Even if you were an older member of this forum, you may have had a comment put in moderation. That's because the changes apply to the first post made after the settings were changed.

Let me know if you have any questions or problems with the settings not working properly after you have an approved comments.

Please note: While I'm on vacation for my wedding and honeymoon starting at the end of April through mid-May, I will not be checking the forum for approvals. So if you're a new member posting then, I apologize for the inconvenience. But due to the great increase in spam here, it's a necessity. I'd rather some people wait for approval than let spammers post malicious links that could harm members.

I just finished a little bit of forum clean-up this morning, and I want to give you a quick update about forum changes.

The Freelance Fitness section has been removed (including the fitness and healthy eating forums). They were getting much to general to be on a blog focused on writing. The intention was to bring back the old Freelance Fitness blog series in a new format here, but I didn't feel it was working out as intended. Those threads are still on the forums. They've simply been moved to the General Chat forum.

A new Blogging forum was added in the main Work at Home Chat group. We seemed to be getting a good bit of discussion around blogging topics, and they didn't fit well into any of the other groups. Any blog-related threads have been moved to that new forum.
