Review of Marketing 365 by Lori Widmer

Lori Widmer is a fellow business writer, and one of my "go-to gals" for all conversations business or writing-related. On her Words on the Page blog, Lori encourages new and experienced writing professionals alike to realize their worth and strive for something better.

Lori inspires freelance writers to pull themselves up out of the low pay rut, and to do so through better marketing and networking. Her e-book, Marketing 365: Daily Strategies for Entrepreneurs and Small Business, features a collection of specific strategies and marketing tactics that will help them do that.

Below you can find my review of Marketing 365, based on a copy provided by the author, including any highlights that I think are especially valuable and any suggestions I have if there are any future releases.

Overall Marketing 365 is a great resource for freelance writers or really any business owner. It serves as a good reference point when working on a marketing plan and evaluating existing marketing strategies.

Even with more than ten years under my belt, including a specialty in marketing & PR, I still found several marketing tactics that I've never used in this e-book. While it would be a great resource for experienced professionals, it would be invaluable to newer freelancers looking for a place to start.

Here are some of the biggest highlights of the Marketing 365 e-book:

  • Given that this e-book features well over 300 marketing tactics, I like that it's broken into sections which are linked from the table of contents.
  • I like, and think it's important, that Lori emphasizes the importance of taking action. No list of marketing ideas is going to help the reader if they don't act upon the information given. The list itself is a tool to be used in building your own marketing plan, and it's a pretty thorough one at that.
  • I love the diversity of the marketing tips included here. No matter what kind of freelancer you are, you're going to find ideas that will work for you. Hate making cold calls? You'll find tips to help you market through networking and other more relaxed methods. Need to focus on marketing to local clients? You'll find ideas that will help you do that. Need to market your services mostly online? There are plenty of tips for that too.

The only change I might suggest for future editions is related to the sections mentioned in the highlights above. While I love that there's a breakdown with links to help people navigate, it would be awesome to have those sections broken apart in the actual marketing tactic list.

For example, a section title and maybe a brief intro explaining either how the tactics are grouped or perhaps what the reader might want to evaluate during each of those time periods could be helpful to readers. But that's all that comes to mind.

Overall, I highly recommend Marketing 365 for any freelancer who is looking to expand their marketing strategy or start building a new career. You can learn more about the e-book or purchase it today through Smashwords. You can also read an excerpt on this blog before buying to give you a better idea of what kind of information this e-book features.

  1. Lori is a wealth of great information. She brings together over a decade of actionable information that actually works! I don’t know what I would have done this past year without her.

    One terrific book:)
