Freedom With Writing

Freedom With Writing is a site focused on helping writes get paid for their writing. They pay $50-150 for these guest contributions.

Harshi

Our publication is an online platform featuring essays, articles, and opinion pieces on topics ranging from lifestyle and education to science and culture. Freelance writers are welcome to submit essays between 500–800 words, with the occasional longer piece considered. Pay rates start at $25–$80 per essay, depending on the topic and level of research required. We look for clear, engaging writing that informs or entertains our readers.

Poets & Writers

Poets & Writers Magazine accepts freelance submissions for four sections: News & Trends, The Literary Life, The Practical Writer, and Features. Exact payments aren't detailed in the guidelines, but the magazine pays when a piece is scheduled for production.

Teachers & Writers Magazine

Teachers & Writers Magazine is published by the Teachers & Writers Collaborative. It covers teaching writing from kindergarten through college, including non-classroom instruction. They accept classroom writing prompts ($75), narrative lesson plans ($100), articles on the art of teaching writing ($150), and interviews ($150).

The Open Notebook

The Open Notebook is a nonprofit organization providing tools and resources for science journalists. They accept freelance pitches for reported features and "story-behind-the-story" interviews. They also accept pitches for features intended for their Diverse Voices in Science Journalism series. Pay is $1800 for interviews and $2500 for reported features (both running 1500-2000 words).

The Worcester Journal

Online quarterly magazine for new writers. Previously unpublished writers preferred, though each issue includes at least one featured writer who is already published and agrees to allow their contact information to be shared for new writers to connect with for advice. Fiction and poetry accepted though strong preference for creative nonfiction. Average word count 500-1500. Pay rate varies based on length and quality of piece between $15-$80.

WOW! Women on Writing

WOW! is "an ezine promoting the communication between women writers, authors, editors, agents, publishers, and readers." They accept freelance contributions. Most articles pay $50-75. Longer, more in-depth, pieces can pay $100-150.

Writer's Digest

Writer's Digest is a magazine for writers. They accept a variety of freelance submissions including for the Inkwell upfront section (1600-word lead stories and shorter 1200-word stories), 800-1200 word author profiles, and writing technique articles of 1200-2500 words. Writer's Digest pays $.50 per word on acceptance. They do not pay for unsolicited online-only contributions and guest posts (and when they do in rare cases, they pay $50-100).

WritersWeekly.com

WritersWeekly.com and The Write Markets Report accept contributions about selling your writing / making more money as a writer (not articles on "how to write"). Submissions should be around 600 words. Payments are $60 for non-exclusive electronic rights.
