Horse Illustrated accepts submissions of up to 2000 words on topics that will help readers "better care for and enjoy their horses."

HowlRound

HowlRound accepts submissions to its journal from "contributors who are deeply invested in and committed to the theatre field." They accept pieces on theatre commoning, ideas that challenge the status quo, lesser-known or marginalized aesthetics, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility for under-represented theatre communities and practices, and theatre practice and process. They pay honorariums of $200 per essay.

Hudson Valley Parent

Hudson Valley Parent is a parenting magazine for residents of New York's Hudson Valley. Articles should have a local focus (such as local camps, area schools, and local activities). The magazine pays $80 for 700-800 word articles, $90-120 for features of 1200 words or more, and $25-35 for reprint rights.

Indy's Child is a parenting magazine focusing on the Indianapolis market. Payments are based on assigned word counts, and they pay after publication.

Informed Comment

Informed Comment covers political and policy issue around beats including the environment, energy, foreign policy, politics, and the economy. Typical contributors are "high-powered professionals with higher degrees and/or extensive publications in national, prominent venues" such as The Washington Post, The Nation, or Salon. Contributors not meeting those standards are discouraged from applying. Each contribution may cover one point only, over 800-1000 words. They pay a $100 honorarium via PayPal.

International Living

International Living publishes content about the positive sides of living, working, and retiring overseas. Expats are paid $75 for their stories in IL's Daily Postcards series. They also pay for freelance submissions at a rate of $250 for 840 words and $400 for 1400 words. If they use your photos as well, they pay $50 for one-time use.

IWA Wine Blog

The IWA Wine Blog accepts contributions about "the best ways to choose, use, install or enjoy wine cellars, racks, cabinets and cooling equipment." Posts should be 700-1000 words, and they pay $50 per post.

iWorkWell.com

iWorkWell accepts contributions from HR professionals / consultants / academics and employment or labor attorneys with HR expertise. They're looking for instructional articles related to HR professionals. They accept both edit offers for existing content on the site (up to $75 depending on the level of improvements) as well as new contributions paying anywhere from $115 - 195 per article. Articles are generally 1500 - 3500 words.

Knitty.com

Knitty.com accepts freelance submissions of knitting articles / tutorials / patterns. Pay attention to the writer's guidelines for notes on when to submit season-specific tutorials. Payments run $200-300 per submission.
